Melania Trump opens ‘office,’ but doesn’t say what she’ll do there
Melania Trump, the wife of former President Donald Trump announced she’s opening an “office,” but doesn’t say what she’ll do there.
The former first lady has one advantage over the former president. He’s been permanently suspended from Twitter “due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” the social media platform said two days after the pro-Trump mob rioted in the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Melania Trump has no such restriction, so Twitter is a platform she can use. As of mid-afternoon Friday, her “office” has sent out one tweet — announcing the formation of the office. It is called “The Office of Melania Trump.” Its Twitter user name is @OfficeofMelania.
In its first three hours, the Twitter account topped 34,000 followers, even though there was no way to tell if it was real. Responses posted to her announcement were decidedly mixed, from support to scorn.
The announcement came several hours after CNN reported Friday that she spends most of her time at the spa at the Mar-a-Lago Club resort in Palm Beach, where the Trumps now live.
Her announcement didn’t say where the new office is located. The new Twitter account listed the location as USA.
Melania Trump has been mysterious before and during the Trump presidency. Like her husband, she has pushed the false “birther” conspiracy theory that former President Barack Obama was born in Kenya, not the United States, so he wasn’t eligible to become president.
During the presidency, she attracted mixed reviews for, among other things, “Be Best,” an effort she said was aimed at combatting cyberbullying, but that evidently didn’t have any impact on Donald Trump.
As Trump left office, polling showed Melania Trump leaving with the lowest favorable rating of any first lady in the history of polling.
