Technology tools workshop to assist people with disabilities
Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family Service in West Palm Beach is providing a free virtual workshop about how assistive technology tools can help people with disabilities.
As part of Jewish Disability Advocacy Month, which is powered by the Jewish Federations of North America, the Zoom presentation takes place at 2 p.m. on Feb. 24. It is hosted by the Melvin J. & Claire Levine LifePlanning program, which is part of Alpert JFS’ Jewish Disabilities Network.
Ana Nevares of the Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology will be the featured speaker for the event about how assistive technology can facilitate daily life across the lifespan, including school work and home.
“We are delighted to have Ms. Nevares share her extensive knowledge of assistive technology devices and how they can assist persons with disabilities improve function capabilities which, in turn, increase independence,” said Tami Lustig, the LifePlanning program director, in a news release.
Nevares said in the news release, “Sometimes, daily tasks can be difficult to accomplish.”
“I look forward to highlighting a range of AT tools that can facilitate everyday activities, and sharing how our state’s AT program, FAAST, can serve as a resource to anyone in the community to try AT for free,” she continued.
