MARGATE — Detectives were looking for a thief, but they found a child molester as well, Margate police said.

Adeler Filossaint, 28, was already awaiting trial on charges that include fleeing police in October. He wore a GPS ankle monitor as part of his pre-trial release conditions and was supposed to stay close to home in Margate, court records showed.

While detectives were investigating the theft of earrings that were pawned in Margate, they said the victim told her mother that she had the suspect’s “DNA in her” if it would help with the investigation.

According to the arrest report, the girl — whose name and exact age were not disclosed — said she had sex with Filossaint at least six times in a car and at her home last month. She first met him while walking to a bus stop Feb. 11. He pulled up in a silver Chevrolet, they talked, exchanged phone numbers, and they got together later that day and several times since.

Investigators said they confirmed the text conversations between her and Filossaint and also traced the travel patterns of his GPS monitor. His movements matched the locations and dates that the girl said they met for sex.

Detectives also monitored a recorded phone call between the girl and Filossaint during which he never denied having sex with her and offered to pay for an abortion if she became pregnant.

She said she had told Filossaint her exact age, which is between 12 and 16, but that did not deter him.

During questioning, Filossaint admitted to having sex with the girl, but said he did not know her name because it did not matter, police said.

Filossaint was arrested Wednesday and remains in the Broward County Jail without bond on charges that include six counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a victim between 12 and 16, and dealing in stolen property among others, records show.
