Dr. Manuel J. Tejeda, professor of management who previously served as associate dean, will lead Barry University’s Andreas School of Business as Interim Dean.
Governmental
Hans Ottinot, managing partner of Ottinot Law P.A. was named the city of Tamarac’s permanent City Attorney. Prior to becoming permanent City Attorney, Ottinot was contracted as Tamarac’s interim City Attorney on Jan. 9, 2021. Throughout his career, he has been City Attorney for Sunny Isles Beach, North Miami, Miami Gardens at the time of its founding, and interim City Attorney for North Miami Beach.
Law
Gunster announced the expansion of its Miami office with the addition of Miguel and Elinette Diaz de la Portilla. They join as shareholders in Gunster’s Environmental and Land Use Law practice.
Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP announced the addition of Andrej Micovic as counsel to its Energy and Infrastructure team in the EIT — Infrastructure: Public Private Partnerships practice.
Amanda L. Barton joined Mr. Cannabis Law as senior associate attorney. Barton is currently president of the Broward chapter of CannabisLAB, a networking and educational group for professionals in the cannabis industry.
Kluger, Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen & Levine P.L. announced the addition of Maia Dombey as a new associate, with a focus on complex commercial litigation.
FordHarrison LLP announced that Aaron
Zandy was named a regional managing partner, supervising six of the firm’s Florida offices. Zandy has served as office managing partner for Orlando since 2015, and will now have the additional responsibility of overseeing the Jacksonville, Melbourne, Miami, Tampa, and West Palm Beach offices.
Kelley Kronenberg announced the addition of Andrea Aguilar and Kirstin Grice in Fort Lauderdale, and Anthony Shih in West Palm Beach, as associates.
Business incubation
The Research Park at Florida Atlantic University elected its 2021 officers, naming Michael Allison, J.D., as elected chairman and Daniel Flynn, Ph.D., as re-elected vice chairman.The Research Park at FAU is governed by the seven-member Florida Atlantic Research and Development Authority, which supports and promotes research and development in affiliation with and related to FAU and fosters technology-led economic development in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Allison was previously executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Office Depot and was responsible for all aspects of human resources in 52 countries. In June 2019, Allison was appointed to serve on the Florida Atlantic Research & Development Authority. Flynn is vice president for research at FAU. He serves on the board of directors for BioArkive, a biotech company based in San Diego.
Finance
Tropical Financial Credit Union promoted Richard Shaw to executive vice president/ chief operations officer. He previously served as chief financial officer.
The Florida Peninsula Insurance family of companies announced the retirement of their Chief Financial Officer, Francis L.
Lattanzio. Lattanzio, a co-founder of Florida Peninsula Insurance Company who has served as CFO since its inception in 2005, will remain with the company as a consultant. Gary Cantor will replace him as the new CFO. Cantor is also a co-founder of the company and has served as executive vice president since 2005.
Community
Nick Savage was hired by Community Partners of South Florida to lead the new Digital Inclusion Program that will bring technology access and education to areas of most need in Palm Beach County, in Riviera Beach.
The Promise Fund of Florida added Dr. Donna Shalala, Ph.D., and Dr. Edith Peterson Mitchell, M.D., to its medical advisory board. The two leaders will help the nonprofit organization in its mission to bridge the healthcare gaps for the estimated 80,000 underinsured and uninsured women in the community, especially as it relates to breast and cervical cancer.

West Palm Beach-based Verdex Construction appointed Alex Smith to vice president of operations.
Leadership, professional development
Scott Hansel, chief executive officer of Community Partners of South Florida, will complete the NeighborWorks Achieving Excellence Program, a collaboration with Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. The program is a performance-driven program that addresses organizational and community challenges. Participants benefit from one-on-one executive coaching, focused peer support and cutting-edge curriculum while applying their newly acquired skills and knowledge to their organizations. Hansel will use these skills for the organization’s work toward ensuring equity, exploring emerging opportunities for cross-sectoral collaboration, and addressing mental health obstacles to achieve healthier neighborhoods.
Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County announced that nine professionals have have been accepted to participate in its leadership program, hosted by the Mandel Leadership Institute. MLI is designed for individuals with leadership experience who currently volunteer or serve in a leadership capacity at a Jewish organization or nonprofit agency, synagogue or at the Federation, and who have the potential to serve in a senior leadership role. The curriculum is developed by leadership expert Dr. Erica Brown. The upcoming participants include: Audrey Ades is a published author; Andrew Alminana is a financial adviser; Samuel Cohen is an attorney; David Ginsberg is the owner of an Allstate insurance agency; Gary Hoffman is a former first vice president of JFS and current board member; Adam Jackowitz is the director of operations for Bring Ruckus, Dough Ops for Sweet Loaf Challah, a partner with Eyelock Eyewear, and a published children’s book author; Michael Kugler, is a commissioner for the Palm Beach County Commission on Ethics and a member of Palm Beach County’s Sexual Assault Response Team; Patti Lehrhoff is recently retired and currently serves on Federation’s Women’s Philanthropy board; and Richard Stein is the President of the Illinois Auto Truck Co.
