Islamorada’s Amara Cay Resort announced that new Executive Chef Chris Smilgin joined its team at Reel Catch, the establishment’s new restaurant. Before joining Amara Cay Resort, Smilgin held various culinary director positions such as at Ocala National Golf Club, Key Largo Fisheries Inc., and Black Diamond Ranch.
Novotel Miami Brickell announced that Marina Temino was named director of sales and marketing.
Boca Raton Resort & Club announced that Daniel A. Hostettler was appointed president of the 200-acre waterfront resort. While serving as president of the destination, Hostettler will continue his role as North American president of Relais & Châteaux. Hostettler is a member of the Cornell Hotel Society, a Trustee of the Culinary Institute of America, and a visiting professor at Johnson & Wales University.
Romann Geneus, Mizner Country Club’s food and beverage supervisor, has been named Mizner Country Club’s Employee of the Year 2020., in Delray Beach.

Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Dr. Madiley Broz to the Florida Board of Psychology. Broz is a clinical neuropsychologist with Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood. She also serves as a professional member and speaker for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Currie Sowards Aguila Architects appointed two new principals, Keith Beal and José Jaramillo.
Law
West Palm Beach attorney, Gary S. Lesser, managing partner of Lesser, Lesser Landy & Smith PLLC, was elected as president-elect designate of The Florida Bar. Lesser will be sworn in as president-elect at the Annual Florida Bar Convention on June 11, when current President-elect Michael Tanner, of Jacksonville, becomes president.
John Voss joined Van Horn Law Group P.A. as an attorney with experience in bankruptcy matters. Voss comes to Van Horn Law Group after spending 11 years at the Bankruptcy Law Clinic in Miami where he served as a client manager and debt negotiator, handling client contact and interviews. Voss was previously the chief operating officer of Hispanic Market Weekly. He also previously was vice president of the Association of Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialists.
Sydney A. Towne joined the family law firm of Gladstone & Weissman P.A. in Boca Raton.

Miami Dade College named Maryam Laguna Borrego as vice president for external affairs & strategy and chief of staff, for the college president. She returns to MDC, where she previously worked on the Wolfson Campus leadership team eight years ago. In her new role, she will serve as a facilitator and conduit between the Office of the President and key stakeholders both internally and externally. Most recently, she was assistant vice president for public affairs the University of Miami.
Cultural
Symphony of the Americas appointed a new executive director, Steven Haines. Haines, who started his career nearly 30 years ago with the Boca Pops, Palm Beach Pops and the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, was most recently chief executive officer of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.
Funding Arts Broward announced new members to its board: Sandra Stella, Eleanor Levy, Craig Wilson, Nancy Bryant and Mona Bentz.
Todd Dahlstrom, PNC Wealth Management vice president and senior business development officer for South Florida, was named board chair of Young Friends of Palm Beach Symphony.

Krista Whitaker joined the Miami HEAT as senior associate counsel in the team’s legal department. Prior to the HEAT, Whitaker was an associate at Proskauer Rose LLP in New York City.

The American Red Cross South Florida Region named Siara Campbell as its new regional communications director. Most recently, Campbell led the event, marketing, and communications efforts at Macy’s.
Katrina Long-Robinson appointed as board president of the West Palm Beach Police Athletic League. Long-Robinson is founder of the Douglas G. Robinson Perseverance Pancreatic Cancer & Empowerment Foundation, and chief executive officer and founder of KLR Consultants. Additionally, Long-Robinson is a board member for Seagull Services, Suits for Senior Inc., Women’s Foundation of Florida Elected Official Advisory Board and Palm Beach County Caucus of Black Elected Officials Inc., and Inner City Youth, among other civic organizations.

Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale named Dr. José J. López as chief medical officer. López will lead all medical staff and healthcare professionals, including the Holy Cross Medical Group. Previously, López was chief executive officer at Healthpoint Hospital in Abu Dhabi.
