Blackwell to be Deerfield Beach interim coach

- By Adam Lichtenstein

Deerfield Beach has named David Blackwell the Bucks’ interim coach following head coach Jevon Glenn’s resignation on Wednesday, Deerfield Beach athletic director Tiajuana Moye-Hills said.

Blackwell, the team’s wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator, was previously an assistant coach at American Heritage-Delray and Cardinal Gibbons. He has coached at Deerfield Beach since 2019.

Deerfield Beach is 1-1 this season following a win over Miami Edison and a loss to Dillard. The loss against the Panthers was forfeited at halftime “due to an issue involving a player and COVID-19 protocols,” Broward County Public Schools spokeswoman Cathy Brennan said.

Deerfield Beach plays Blanche Ely at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Glenn announced his resignation on Wednesday on the Deerfield Beach Twitter account.

“In lite of a series of recent uncertainties and worries in regards to my physical & mental health I will be stepping down as HC effective immediately!” Glenn wrote on Twitter. “Though it is an extremely difficult decision to walk away, I must do what’s best for myself & my love ones. #StillBuckPride”

Moye-Hills said Glenn resigned for personal reasons.

Glenn went 55-16 over more than six seasons at Deerfield Beach. He led the Bucks to the state semifinals in 2016, 2018 and 2019. Deerfield also reached the Tri-County Class 8A title game in 2020.

“We want to extend our sincerest gratitude and support to Coach Glenn because he did coach this team with dignity and respect and brought us to unbelievable heights and for that, he will never be forgotten,” MoyeHills wrote in an email.
