HOSPITAL VISITATION POLICIES, COVID RULES IN SOUTH FLORIDA

As COVID hospitaliz­ations climb in South Florida, local health care systems are tightening rules on allowing visitors, requiring masks, social distancing, and other guidelines from the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control. Here are the current policies at South Florida’s major hospitals. Call or check the websites below to verify requiremen­ts before visiting any rehabilita­tion center or health care facility. Emergency rooms remain open 24/7.

Broward County

Broward Health: Level Yellow visitation policy in effect. No visitation for COVID-positive patients. One visitor at a time 8 a.m.-7 p.m. for COVID-negative patients. One designated visitor allowed in the emergency department waiting room. One visitor per patient in maternity and pediatric units. Virtual visits are encouraged whenever possible. COVID-19-positive patients who are staying in the hospital cannot have any visitors. Those who are staying in the hospital and are COVID-19-negative can have one designated visitor over age 18. People attending routine appointmen­ts cannot have visitors with them unless they need special assistance. Masks are required for patients and visitors, even if vaccinated. Some nonCOVID patients are limited to one adult visitor (age 16 and up) at a time 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Heightened infection prevention policies are in place, including the removal of high-touch items such as magazines, toys and vending machines. Food and drinks are prohibited in clinical units to prevent the spread of illness. Memorial Health System: Red status, ‘Severe Risk.’ no visitors allowed, some exceptions apply. The few exceptions include end-of-life, maternity, pediatric and for patients with special needs; visits to be determined by medical teams.
