Your property tax bill now on its way to your mailbox

- By Lisa J. Huriash

Broward and Palm Beach counties’ property tax bills are in the mail and homeowners can start making payments Monday.

In Broward, you can check out what you owe at broward. county-taxes.com, also starting Monday. In Palm Beach County, the website is www. pbctax.com/pay-online.

Broward is ahead of its neighbors to the north and south.

In Palm Beach County, the tax collector said Wednesday the tax bills hadn’t gone to print yet, but on Thursday he said the bills have since been printed and mailed. By law, homeowners still can start making payments Monday.

The bills are almost ready to get sent out in MiamiDade County. Those get delivered to the post office Friday, and property owners can start making payments just after midnight Monday, according to the Tax Collector’s office. Payments can be made online at miamidade. county-taxes.com and early payment discounts will be available.

In Broward, the deadline to pony up the cash to avoid interest and fees is March 31.

But there’s some relief. Early payment discounts for payments made in full are 4% if paid during November. A 3% discount applies in December, a 2% discount in January and a 1% discount in February.

You can pay online with a credit or debit card, but beware of the 2.55% fee. You can also pay by eCheck, directly from your bank’s online bill pay service, by snail mail with a check from a U.S. bank account or in person weekdays at the government center in Fort Lauderdale.

The Wells Fargo banks are also accepting payments by check or money order. You’ll need to have the tax bill with you and cash payments won’t be accepted.

Partial payments will be permitted in five installments of at least $100 each and will include a $10 processing fee. No early payment discounts will be allowed for those paying in installments.
