Community

Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County Inc. named Randy Colman president and chief executive officer. Colman has been executive director/ chief executive officer for the Adolph and Rose Levis Jewish Community Center in Boca Raton for the past decade. He also held other roles including director of the Sports Medicine Institute at Mount Sinai Medical Center and founding director of The Union for Reform Judaism’s 6 Points Sports Academy in Greensboro, NC.

The Boca Raton Historical Society celebrated its Walk of Recognitio­n inductees for 2021, in addition to 2020 honorees. The annual honor goes to individual­s and organizati­ons that serve and enrich the community. The 2021 Walk of Recognitio­n inductees are: George S. Brown Jr., deputy city manager of Boca Raton and a former board member of the Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum; Robert K. Rollins Jr., president of The Beacon Group, and who served on the City of Boca Raton’s Parks and Recreation Board for 10 years; and Edith Stein, co-founder of the Martin & Edith Stein Family Foundation, which donated $5 million in support of a planned arts and innovation center in Mizner Park. The 2020 Walk of Recognitio­n inductees are: Terry Fedele, the late Jay Van Vechten, and Boca Ballet Theatre.

Anne M. Gannon, Palm Beach County constituti­onal tax collector, was appointed to the board of directors of Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden.

Business developmen­t

The U.S. Small Business Administra­tion announced President Biden’s appointmen­ts of its regional leadership, including Allen Thomas as regional administra­tor for the southeast region, where he will oversee SBA programs, offices, and operations in the SBA’s Southeast region, serving Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississipp­i, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Thomas is a former three-term mayor of Greenville, North Carolina, and a businessma­n in public and private enterprise.

Education

Dr. Tunjarnika Coleman-Ferrell, who has served as Palm Beach State College’s interim vice president of academic affairs since January, was selected for the permanent role. She joined the College in 1998 as a professor of teacher education at the Boca Raton campus, later becoming department chair, associate dean of STEM and dean of academic affairs. In fall 2018, she was appointed provost and dean of student services at the Palm Beach Gardens campus, and she will continue to serve as provost until the college conducts a search and appoints a permanent replacemen­t.

Skanska has expanded its Florida building division with the hiring of Bryan Sanetz as vice president — project executive.

Marine

The Marine Industries Associatio­n of South Florida announced that Noah Dermody was appointed MIASF’s new director of membership and events.

MarineMax appointed Abbey Heimensen to vice president of marketing. She joined the company in 2011.

Research and developmen­t

Fort Lauderdale-based Psycheceut­ical, which develops, and licenses patented biotech solutions for safer, more effective delivery of psychedeli­c pharmaceut­icals, announced the addition of Zachary Clayton, PhD, to its scientific advisory board. Clayton is a postdoctor­al research fellow in The Department of Integrativ­e Physiology at The University of Colorado Boulder, working in Dr. Douglas Seals’ Integrativ­e Physiology of Aging Laboratory.

Law

Chad Van Horn, founding partner of Van Horn Law Group P.A., received a Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award from Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida and the Bankruptcy Pro Bono Award from Dade Legal Aid/Put Something Back for exemplary pro bono service to low-income individual­s and families across Florida. Van Horn and his team handled 10 pro bono cases and participat­ed in three bankruptcy clinics in the past eight months for Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida. For Dade Legal Aid, the firm handled more than 20 cases over the past year.

Technology

Veta Health, a provider of digital solutions for remote patient care and chronic condition monitoring, appointed James Sutcliffe as chief executive officer. He joined from DayToDay Health, an internatio­nal digital health company, where he worked as chief commercial officer.
