Mullen highlights Broward standouts

Coconut Creek CB relishes time at All-American Bowl

- By Adam Lichtenstein

Taking a trip to San Antonio for the All-American Bowl is not a new experience for Trevell Mullen.

The Coconut Creek senior went to the Alamodome to watch an older brother, Trayvon, play in the Army All-American Bowl in 2016. He made the trip again in 2019 when another brother, Tiawan, played in the 2019 game.

Saturday was Trevell’s turn. The Cougars star was one of three Broward County players to participate in the All-American Bowl, along with American Heritage defensive end Marvin Jones Jr. and St. Thomas Aquinas offensive lineman Julian Armella. American Heritage defensive back Earl Little Jr. and Dillard defensive lineman Nyjalik Kelly were also All-Americans but did not play.

“I remember watching my brothers play in this game,” Mullen said. “It’s just a blessing. I was emotional at first. I just couldn’t believe that I was at this point, an All-American like my two big brothers.”

Armella (a four-star prospect and Florida State signee), Jones and Mullen were on the East team, which fell to the West

team, 34-14. The game was broadcast on NBC. All three Broward County players started for the East team.

Jones, who is rated a fivestar prospect in 247Sports’ composite ranking and is signed to Georgia, had an assisted sack early in the game. Mullen, a fourstar prospect and Indiana signee, had the biggest statistical impact on the

game, making four tackles and breaking up two passes.

“My favorite part (of the game) was when one of the players went deep and I tipped the ball towards the end zone,” Mullen said. “That was my favorite part of the game, and then the tackle on the punt.”

Mullen said his favorite part of the trip to San Antonio was meeting other top

players from around the country.

“My favorite part was just meeting all the recruits, just meeting everybody and communicating with all the recruits,” Mullen said.

Next up for Mullen is moving to Bloomington, Indiana, to suit up for the Hoosiers and play alongside his brother Tiawan, an All-American cornerback

for Indiana.

“I’m [looking forward to] just going up there, learning the playbook, getting bigger, getting faster, stronger ... and just getting on the field with my big brother,” Mullen said. “That’s always been a dream at a big, big level, just to play at a stage with one of my big brothers.”
