A 19-year-old Lauderhill man is facing charges in a February 2021 hit-and-run crash that killed a 22-yearold mother after he hit her while speeding over 70 mph and didn’t request paramedics to help, court records say.

Plantation Police arrested Jaden “JJ” Perry Thursday on charges of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, driving without a license causing death and reckless driving causing property damage. He is being held in the Broward Main Jail pending bond.

Perry drove his 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 between 63 and 77 mph in the 4700 block of West Sunrise Boulevard on Feb.

1, 2021, when he hit Joby Aquino-Gomera as she crossed the street, a probable cause affidavit says. He did not have a license at the time.

Perry was likely driving closer to the 77-mph range in the 45 mph zone, the report says, based on surveillance video from a nearby Shell gas station, the lack of skid marks in the road and a statement from the girl in his passenger seat.

After the crash, Perry told his passenger to get out of the car and put a sweatshirt on to hide herself, the affidavit says. He did not go to help Aquino-Gomera and told his passenger not to either, the affidavit says.

Mercedes-Benz cars have an emergency system that is triggered after a traffic crash where an operator calls the driver to see if help is needed, according to the brand’s website. A voice believed to be Perry’s told the emergency system operator, “Someone jumped in front of the car bro,” the affidavit says.

Asked if he needed paramedics, the man answered, “Yeah, naw” and then said no a second time, the affidavit says. Perry called for a getaway driver for him and his passenger.

The driver, Maurice “Reece” McLean, picked them up and “drove them around late into the night,” the report says. Perry’s passenger told officers Perry and McLean refused to drop her off, in fear she would “rat” on Perry.

Officers found the Mercedes empty and abandoned in the road by the time they got to the scene.

The affidavit says Aquino-Gomera’s daughter may have watched the “tragic ending of her mother’s life.”

Records show that McLean may face a charge of accessory after the fact. He is not currently in custody.

Perry’s bond has been set at $475,000, and he has been ordered to be GPS-monitored, not to drive and not to leave Broward County without permission from the court, records say.
