Sheriff suffers minor injuries in crash

Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry (D) was involved in a serious car accident on Friday and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, though both driver’s only suffered minor injuries.

Berry was traveling in the La Plata area when the other motorist turned at the intersecti­on of Rose- wick Road and Washington Avenue and reportedly failed to yield the right-of-way to him, causing the accident, according to authoritie­s.

“The other driver and I were very fortunate [in] sustaining minor injuries,” Berry wrote in a Facebook post. “I am truly grateful

and blessed by God’s protection. I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for all involved. Also, thanks to all the emergency responders, Maryland State Police, Charles County Sheriff’s Office & Charles County Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services.”

Berry shared the crash photo on his Facebook page as many concerned citizens expressed their relief.

“Sheriff Troy D. Berry, as a part of La Plata United Methodist Church’s program to pray for every officer of CCSO, I am privileged to be the one praying for you every day,” commented Bruce A. Jones. “I am so grateful that God has spared you of serious injury. I will pray for your complete healing, even the internal aches, twists and strains. Praise God that you are well and whole. Amen.”

The sheriff was back to work on Monday, though his shoulder was still suffering from soreness.
