Victims nearly struck by car

Two Waldorf women were arrested in the early hours of Sunday after allegedly crashing into a woman’s car and attacking her and members of her family afterwards.

Tajae Shane Johnson, 22, was charged with first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault as well as driving while impaired by alcohol, court records show.

Tyesha Lakrese Thomas, 23, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of attempted first-degree assault after she reportedly drove towards the victims, who had to jump out of the way of the car to avoid being struck.

On April 3 around 1:24 a.m., the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported assault in progress in the 4300 block of Eagle Court in Waldorf.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victims who told them how the incident unfolded.

According to the victim’s mother, her daughter called to tell her she was being followed by Johnson and Thomas as she drove toward the house on Eagle Court. She was scared that they were going to attack her.

At one point in the chase, Johnson “drove around her and stopped in front of her,” in an attempt to block her escape, charging documents indicate. When the victim tried to maneuver around the car, Johnson allegedly reversed the car, striking the victim’s driver side and doing significant damage to the vehicle.

The victim’s family told police they heard a loud crash at about this time.

When the victim got to her home on Eagle Court, she “had to get out of the passenger side of the car [because the driver’s side was damaged], and Tajae Johnson ran up to her and started hitting her in the face and pulling her hair,” police records state.

Johnson also allegedly hit members of the victim’s family as they tried to break up the fight.

Meanwhile, Thomas, who was initially in the passenger seat, reportedly hopped into the driver seat, revved the engine and quickly accelerated forward, nearly hitting multiple victims who jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, charging documents show.

Johnson and Thomas were arrested and taken to the Charles County Detention Center, where they underwent an alcohol concentration test. Johnson’s results indicated she was over the legal limit with a reported BAC of .10.

The motive behind the assault was over a boy the victim and Thomas had been arguing over, a family member told police.

Johnson and Thomas have since been released on bond, per court records, and now await a preliminary hearing.
