Writer lacks facts about North Point
In the recent letter to the editor, titled “A Loss for Charles County” published Friday, March 25, in the Mar yland Independent, it was obvious that the author was ver y biased against North Point High School. While it is true that ever yone is entitled to their opinion, it is not acceptable for a person to attack children or the sports program of a high school based on their opinion. Many of the things said in this letter are based solely on opinion, not fact. For example, in the letter, the author mentioned that North Point High School recruits students from all over the county for their sports teams, however that is false, because all of the coaches have been told that recruiting players will result in job loss. The main point I wanted to address from this letter was the point the author made about North Point choosing (and/or recruiting) players from other schools based on their athletic ability. It is inaccurate that North Point can choose players based on their athletic ability because there is a specific selection process the school goes through in order to pick students for their STI programs. In the selection process, each student is assigned a number so nobody, except [North Point High Admissions Counselor Jacqueline-Ann] Loux, knows the names of the student they are evaluating. Therefore, it is impossible for North Point to choose specific scholars because the selection process is only based upon academic ability, not athletic.
All of the student athletes at North Point High School work ver y hard in order to keep up their grades so they can participate in sports. That being the case, it is absurd for a person to attack ver y hard-working student athletes just because they are good at a certain sport. Even though North Point High School is a very large school, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t follow the same recruiting or zoning laws (with the exception of STI programs) of other schools in Charles County.
