St. Mary’s Historic Half Marathon
The inaugural St. Mary’s Historic Half Marathon will occur May 1 at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in St. Mary’s City.
A portion of profits from the event, which also includes a 5K, will be donated to the St. Mary’s College men’s and women’s cross country teams.

Bike sessions
BMX bike sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays at Charles County Skatepark, which is at White Plains Regional Park.
Standard skatepark admission fees apply. Cyclists 18 and younger must have a parent or legal guardian present at time of registration.

Fishin’ buddies derby
Charles County Department of Public Works’ parks division will hold a spring fishin’ buddies derby from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 7 at Gilbert Run Park in Dentsville.
Anglers will compete by teams, which must include one adult at least 21 years old and one child 6 to 15. Each team must supply their own rods and bait.
The cost is $7 per team. Registration is required since participation is limited.
Entry forms are available at Gilbert Run Park or the main office of the Department of Public Works on Radio Station Road in La Plata.
Registration forms are due in the Department of Public Works’ main office by noon May 4.

Golf clinics
The Charles County Department of Public Works’ parks division will offer golf clinics for women and children at White Plains Golf Course.
Women’s clinics will occur from 5 to 6:15 p.m. May 9 to 12 and May 23 to 26. The cost is $75.
Junior golf clinics will occur from 8 to 9:15 a.m. July 18 to 21 for children 8 to 12 and from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Aug. 8 to 11 for children 13 to 17. The cost is $50.
Registration is required. Maximum class size is eight participants. Golf clinic participants will receive a complimentary round of golf.

Southern Maryland Men’s Senior Baseball League
The Southern Maryland Men’s Senior Baseball League is looking for new teams, players and umpires who would like to join its organization that has been serving community for 24 years.
Games will begin around mid-June and continue until mid-October at one or two per week planned for Friday evenings, Saturdays or Sundays. They are played in the Charles County area with plans for games also in St. Mary’s and Calvert counties as new teams and players sign up.
Teams have won many age divisions at local, regional and national tournaments competing against representing states in the United States, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
