Westlake wins invitational Westlake’s boys track and field team took home first place on Saturday at the Riverdale Baptist Track and Field Invitational in Upper Marlboro.

The Wolverines scored 157 points. 55 1/2 better than second-place C.H. Flowers of Prince George’s County.

Will Moten won the 100and 200-meter dashes, tying his own mark in the 100 set last year with a time of 10.86 seconds. He was two one-hundredths off tying his own mark in the 200 set last year, finishing Saturday with a time of 21.91 seconds. Teammates Thomas Alcorn (22.66) and Matthew Fitch (23.19) were second and fourth in the 200, respectively.

Westlake finished first and third in the 400 with Alcorn (50.19) and Tobias Hurley (52.79).

Jalen Elliott notched a firstplace win in the 110 hurdles with a meet record 14.45.

The Wolverines won two relays. The 400 relay team of Alcorn, Elliott, Hurley and Moten took first in 42.63, smashing a Westlake record set last year by six seconds. Elliott, Hurley, Moten and Alcorn teamed up to win the 1,600 relay in 3 minutes 19.34 seconds, setting a new meet record by over three seconds.

In the field events, Westlake had numerous top finishes led by Kyle Nottage in the hammer throw with a toss of 39 feet 3 inches. Nottage was also third in the discus (123-7) and fourth in the shot put (43-6 1/4). Myles Campbell finished second in the shot put (45-5 1/4) and fourth in the discus (115-0). Hurley was second in the triple jump (38-4 3/4) and John Williams captured third in the long jump (18-0 1/2).

The Wolverines girls placed sixth, tying Bullis of Montgomery County with 26 points. Brentsville District (Va.) was the winner with 155.

The 3,200 relay team of Latavia Washington, Skye Cummings, Kennedeigh Hairston and Jour’dan Haynes broke the meet record by three one-hundredths of a second, finishing in 10:23.58. Cummings was sixth in the 800 (2:29.17), while Jordan Davis took third in the hurdles (18.75). La Plata shines at McNamara The Warriors boys finished in top 10 at the McNamara Mustangs Invitational in Forestville on Saturday, placing 10th with 43 points. T.C. Williams (Va.) was the winner with 114.50.

Alexander Devine was first in two field events, claiming the shot put with a throw of 50-6 and the discus in 137-4. Also, Miles Smith was second in the 800 (1:56.07) and the 1,600 (4:25.25).

The girls were 21st, tying with Elizabeth Seton of Prince George’s County with 12 points. Oscar Smith (Va.) was the winner with 98.

Autumn Townsend was third in the discus (115-1) and Lillian Reese placed fifth in the lone jump (16-8 1/2) to lead the Warriors. St. Charles picks up firsts The Spartans competed in the DMV Invitational at Oxon Hill High School on Saturday. The boys were fifth with 46 points, behind champion Great Mills which had 179. The girls placed sixth with 29 points as Great Mills won with 102.

In boys, St. Charles had four individuals and one relay team place in the top five, led by Jason Tyler’s win in the 400 (48.52).

The Spartans girls had five individuals and two relay teams place in the top four. Madisyn Clark took the high jump with a leap of 5-0 and the 3,200 relay team of Marshawn Jackson, Parris King, Tyler Plummer and Asha-ashanti Turner finished first in 11:34.93
