Woman charged with vehicle assault

An Indian Head woman was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend with a vehicle. Seated in the back of the car, the man reportedly feared for his life as the woman allegedly began driving at a high-rate of speed, careening down a narrow service road and launching the car off of an embankment and striking a tree, court records show.

No one was reported injured in the crash, but police arrested Samantha Michelle Shue, 22, and charged her with first-degree assault.

On May 10 around 2:34 p.m., officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Cedar Lane for the report of a domestic assault with a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the car had been wrecked a few blocks away on a service road near Oak Lane and Holly Lane.

On the scene, the victim told police that he and Shue were in the car arguing nearby when she threw Gatorade on him. In turn, he threw Gatorade back at her.

She then started the car and began driving at a highrate of speed, yelling “I’m going to kill you today,” court records state. She reportedly drove approxi- mately 50 mph down Oak Lane and made a sharp right-turn down the service road, accelerating to about 60 mph directly toward a large tree.

A short distance before the tree, the car hit an embankment and went airborne, striking the tree before the car ended up about 50 feet off the road, coming to rest on top of thick brush in the wooded area.

He immediately called the police because she tried to kill him, the victim said.

When interviewed, Shue told police that her boyfriend had been driving the car and that she did not know whether he drove it off the road on purpose or on accident, but after further investigation officers determined Shue had been the driver, charging documents indicate.

Shue was taken to the Charles County Detention Center and was released on personal recognizance the following day.
