Frances Alberta Jarrett
Frances Alberta “Bert” (Barger) Jarrett, 85, of Nanjemoy, MD, died May 9, 2016 at her residence. Bert was a loving wife, mother, homemaker, and a very dear bus driver for Calvin Compton Sr. and Jr. for two special needs schools (Melwood and F. B. Gwynn Center) and all public school levels. She retired at the age of 74.
For many years, she was a member of the Women’s Mite Society at Durham Church where she also served on the Vestry and Alter Guild sharing her beautiful gift of flower arranging. As a young wife and mother, she was a member of the Homemakers Club (through the Charles County Extension Service).
She was the daughter of Lester LeRoy Smith and Zula Olive Carter Smith. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husbands, Blair B. Barger and John W. Jarrett; her step-mother, “Dot” Smith; her brother, Dennis Smith; her sister, Bettye Cummings.
She is survived by her son, Blair “Bruce” Barger and wife Bonnie; her daughters, Deborah Lee Boyd and husband Thomas, Norma Lianna Ryan and husband Patrick, and Bonnie S. Tyo and husband Robert; her sisters, Margaret Campbell and husband Albert, Leslie Smith, and Jean Edwards and husband Robert; and her brother-in-law, Ken Cummings; her grandchildren, Brian Barger, Allison Eddy, Mark Boyd, Blair Boyd, Ben Hammer, Michael Hammer, Eric Hammer, Alex Tyo, Matthew Tyo, and Katherine Tyo; and her great-grandson, Evan Barger and great-granddaughter, Krissy Davis.
Friends received on Sunday, May 15, from 4-7 p.m. with prayers at 6:30 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, MD 20646. Additional visitation on Monday, May 16, from 12 p.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at Old Durham Episcopal Church in Ironsides, MD. Interment at the church cemetery.

Hannelore Anna Frieda Howe
Hannelore Anna Frieda Howe, 87, of Sandgates, died on May 4, 2016 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.
Born July 22, 1928 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm Heinrich Franz and Georgina Eleonore (Kramer) Franz.
Mrs. Howe is survived by her daughter Patricia Tippett, sons Michael Howe and Jeffrey Howe, sister Lieselotte Sutton, sister-in-law Renate Franz; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Henry Howe, son Ronald Howe, brother Karlheinz Franz, and brother-in-law Gordon Sutton. Viewing will be held at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home in La Plata on May 17th, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Prayers will be at 7 p.m. Viewing will be held on May 18th at 11 a.m. followed by Interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bryantown. Pallbearers are Michael Howe, Jeffrey Howe, David Howe, Gary Steventon Jr., Gregory Steventon, Stephen Howe, Jeremy Tippett, and Henry Thompson.
Clarence Daniel Carpenter Jr.
Clarence Daniel Carpenter Jr., 91, of Indian Head, MD, died May 10, 2016 at the Hospice House of Charles County with his family by his side. He was born Nov. 29, 1924 in Indian Head, MD. His parents were Clarence Daniel Carpenter Sr. and Etta Adams Carpenter. Clarence was also preceded in death by his wife Lucille Baker Carpenter, they were married on July 16, 1943; siblings Agnes Bowie, Gertrude Wright McWilliams, Clarence Mitchell Carpenter, Lemuel Carpenter and John Carpenter.
He is survived by his children, Lucy Clements (Steve), Nancy Taylor (Doug), and C. Dan Carpenter III (Donna). Grandchildren Lori Roberts, Karen Shifflett, Jeff Clements and Robert Taylor. Great grandchildren Lily Roberts, Jesse Clements and Randy Roberts Jr.
He was a graduate of Lackey High School Class of 1943. Clarence was retired from the Metallurgy Division, Naval Research Laboratory. He was past president Maryland State Firemen’s Association, Past President Southern Maryland Fireman’s Association, Past President Charles County Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Life Member and Past President of the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Dept.
Clarence enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, the fire department, and being with his family. He was very dedicated to his family and loved to help and serve others.
Viewing will be held on Friday, May 13, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, May 14, 10 a.m. at the St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Indian Head, MD. Interment St. Charles Cemetery, Indian Head.
Pallbearers: Jeff Clements, Robert Taylor, Randy Roberts, Chris Bowie, Matthew Carpenter, Chuck Legagneux, John Shifflett, and Robert “Bob” Collins.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Star of the Sea Cemetery Fund, Hospice of Charles County or the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and Auxiliary.
