-

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay has recognized MOM’s Organic Market as a Businesses for the Bay Gold Member. MOM’s Organic Market, with a location in Waldorf, joins a growing partnership of large and small businesses in the Chesapeake Bay watershed that are undertaking voluntary actions to improve the health of the bay and its watershed, rivers and streams, according to an alliance press release.

MOM’s Organic Market has been in business for nearly three decades and employs almost 1,000 people in the region.

MOM’s Businesses for the Bay program focuses on engaging communities, local habitat restoration and promoting green initiatives. Each location adopts a local park, highway or stream, appoints an environmental restoration captain to train staff and execute sustainability goals, and hosts several events and campaigns throughout the year, including educational signage in the stores.

Along with its 100 percent green power status and promotion of electric vehicles, MOM’s donates over $500,000 each year to environmental organizations, including the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay’s Project Clean Stream.

Businesses for the Bay provides a network for its members to share strategies and successes with other members and partners, and receive recognition for the valuable role each takes to help improve the environment.

Conferring Gold Member status is a way for the alliance to recognize MOM’s commitment to Chesapeake Bay protection and restoration.
