La Plata woman killed in Laurel shooting

Suspected gunman at large, cash reward offered

Police are actively searching for a man wanted for homicide after investigat­ors believe he shot two people at a Laurel motel on Saturday, killing a La Plata woman and injuring a man, according to authoritie­s.

Investigat­ors of the Howard County Police Department have offered a cash reward up to $5,000 for informatio­n leading to the arrest of Kenneth Frizzell Diggs Jr., 47, of no fixed address, who is suspected of fatally shooting Amanda Duer, 29, and attempting to murder Derick Henderson, 33, of Washington, D.C., after a dispute at the Turf Motel.

At 4:30 a.m. on July 2, police responded to the Turf Motel located in the 9800 block of Washington Boulevard for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered

two victims suffering from gunshots wounds, a press release states. Duer was transporte­d to Laurel Regional Hospital, and was later pronounced dead. Henderson was taken to a shock trauma unit for a gunshot wound to his leg, but has since been released from the hospital.

Detectives believe that Diggs and the victims knew each other and a dispute had taken place before the shooting, authoritie­s reported. Witnesses told police that they saw Diggs enter the doorway of the victims’ motel room and fire several shots at both of them.
