Thanks for supporting annual Joe Williams Memorial Golf Tournament

Thanks to everyone who participat­ed in, and supported, the 11th Annual Joe Williams Memorial Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Harry White Wilmer American Legion Post 82 and the Sons of The American Legion Squadron 82. In addition to being a past commander of Squadron 82, Joe was a long time educator and football coach in the Charles County school system and a friend to all.

The tournament was held on June 24 at White Plains Golf Course with 126 golfers participat­ing on a perfect day. With a score of 57, the team of Brad Williams, Mike Clark, Josh Thomas and Jeff Perkins took first place honors.

Gold sponsors included Jill and Brad Williams, the Williams family, the American Legion Auxiliar y Unit 82, La Plata Pediatrics & Women’s Health LLC, KMLogistic­s LLC, United Metro Golf Carts and John L. Sprague Agency Inc. The Olde Towne Insurance Agency, Inc. (Gary Simpson), Joson Fine Jewelry & Home Boutique, Inc. and Chick-fil-A, La Plata were Silver sponsors. Bronze sponsors included Burger King, the Charles County Corvette Club, Jimmie’s Paddock Inc., McConnell Pool, Navy Federal Credit Union, the VFW Southern Charles County Memorial Post 10081, Southern Maryland Title LLC, Newburg Service Center, Judy’s Hall Shop in La Plata, Old Line Bank and Mudd, Mudd & Fitzgerald, P.A.

In addition to the gold, silver and bronze sponsors, the following individual­s and organizati­ons donated products or services which were given as door prizes during the dinner at the Post following the tournament: All Season Aire, All American Harley Davidson, Ann Rees, Apple Spice Junction, Auto Zone, Blue Dog Saloon, Bob Williams, Bob Hall LLC, Bozick Distributo­rs, Burger King, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Casey Jones, Chick-fil-A, Colonial Liquors, Ducks Unlimited, Flowers Bakery & Foods, Giant, Joanie Roberts, Joani Hrabe, Outback Steakhouse, Panera Bread of La Plata, Port Tobacco Restaurant, Target, Texas Roadhouse, Utz Quality Foods Inc., Walmart and White Plains Golf Course.

Over $9,000 was raised for American Legion and community programs, including the $2,500 Sons of The American Legion Squadron 82 Veterans’ Memorial Scholarshi­p which is awarded annually to a graduating senior of La Plata High School. Congratula­tions to Cameron Butler, the 2016 scholarshi­p winner. Since its beginning in 2006, the tournament has raised over $77,000. Once again, thanks to the sponsors, the many volunteers, and everyone who participat­ed, for making the 11th Annual Joe Williams Memorial Golf Tournament a great success. Dave Tatman, Waldorf
