25 years of rescuing animals

As we celebrate our 25th year of community service here at the Orphaned Wildlife Rescue Center, we would like to acknowledge all of the wonderful supporters who make our work possible.

Over the past 25 years, OWRC has made numerous accomplishments. We hope this year will continue to show how far we’ve come and that our organization will continue to progress. In order to make that happen, though, we’re going to need some help.

I would like to acknowledge how sincerely grateful we are to our eight veterinarians, five student interns and many volunteers who work 4½- to 8½hour shifts every week. Many of the smaller animals all require very frequent feedings. Some of them are fed as often as every hour or so.

We have rescued over 35,000 wild animals since 1990, varying from waterfowl picked up by our rescue vessel on the Chesapeake Bay to pelicans spotted by volunteer pilots. We operate under a strict nokill policy and believe all life holds value and deserves every chance to live, no matter how small. The number of wildlife rehabilitators in Maryland never seems to be large enough for all the animals in need. This only emphasizes our constant need for volunteers and donations to help us keep our doors open.
