Sacred Heart Church holds first ‘blue mass’
Law enforcement honored, prayed for at event
Amid waves of national unrest and division between law enforcement and the communities they protect, Sacred Heart Church in La Plata invited people of all denominations to attend its inaugural “blue mass” on Friday to pray for the men and women who put
to erupt with applause.
After the mass concluded, Berry thanked Sacred Heart Church and the citizens of Charles County who show support for law enforcement.
“I’m very appreciative of what Sacred Heart Church has done today, showing their appreciation for law enforcement, not just the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, but all the law enforcement entities that are in the community,” he said. “For the folks that take the time out of their busy schedule to put on this service and let us members of the law enforcement community know that we’re appreciated means a lot and I’m very humbled by that.”
“We understand that what’s happening nationally has caused a strain in regards to police and community relations,” Berry continued. “Here in Charles County, we are very fortunate to have a community that supports its law enforcement, and not every community has that luxury. So, we’re thankful for that.
“That wonderful relationship that we have in Charles County, we’re just trying to protect and preserve, and we’re just grateful for it.”
