La Plata shop hosts free online guitar clinic

Island Music Company’s Guitar Club hosted special guest Tyler Larson, founder of internet sensation Music Is Win, for a free clinic on Aug. 10.

This free event was streamed live on a facebook page while over thirty participants got a sampling of Larson’s popular online lesson series covering basic fundamentals to advanced theory, according to a press release.

He gave an in-depth look at his pedal board — the setup, the diverse sounds each pedal produces and the cumulative effect each has on his overall sound. Larson, known for his humorous YouTube videos on life as a musician and his uncomplicated teaching style, provided advice and insight into building a brand via social media and the internet. “Tyler has great practical advice for musicians who want to build a brand online,” local musician and Guitar Club coordinator Chris Dean said in the release. “We are always looking for innovative musicians and products to feature in the club every month. Tyler was a great fit for us. He had a lot of information and advice to share in a really entertaining format.”

Island Music Company’s Guitar Club is a free monthly clinic that features product demos, artist meet-and-greets, guitar jams and socializing for guitar players of all ages and skill levels.

Island Music Company and Music Is Win first paired up earlier in the year when the La Plata shop facilitated an endorsement deal with Peavey and PRS Guitars for Larson. Island Music was the first stop on a tour of Music Is Win clinics. While visiting, Larson filmed “The 8 MOST Overplayed Songs in a Guitar Store” which has been viewed over 2 million times on Facebook.
