Thank you, McConchie School supporters
Tremendous thanks and appreciation are extended to all of those attendees and volunteers who supported the McConchie School Project at the Charles County Fair this year. The participation was overwhelming, with approximately 575 attendees at the school house presentations. The level of public interest about the histor y and heritage of the school was heartwarming.
Special thanks go to those fair employees, fair volunteers and school system members who provided time, labor and materials to enable the opening of the school house. They include J.T. Hindle, Agnes Birch, Jason Yates, Glenn Belmore, Wayne Freeman, Tom Weirich, Tim Bodamer, Norm Saunders and Vicki Kelly. Thanks also go to the volunteer presenters of “A History of McConchie School.” They include Charles Lee, Janice Wilson, Janet Gummere and Cynthia Sondheimer.
Last but not least, the McConchie School Committee members worked for several months to ensure that the presentation of the school’s heritage would be both accurate and interesting. Those committee presenters include Valerie Freeman, Charlene Haney, Jervie Petty, Tina Wilson and Anna Kephart, who researched and prepared the script for “A History of McConchie School.”
On a personal note, I would like to thank Mr. Michael Sykes II, Maryland Independent reporter, for taking the time to visit the McConchie School and to interview the committee members. His article inspired many Independent readers to visit the school during the fair.
The school project is just “gearing up.” The committee looks forward to working with the community to continually improve the building and the program.
