Maryland Secretary of Veterans Affairs George W. Owings III will meet with veterans and citizens 10:30 a.m. at the Maryland Veterans Memorial Museum, 11000 Crain Highway, Newburg. The event will be hosted by the Veterans Democratic Club of Charles County and Vicinity. There is a small fee for lunch (optional). The Town of La Plata Town Council will meet 7 p.m. at town hall, 305 Queen Anne St., La Plata. The Indian Head Community Activities Committee will meet 7 p.m. at the Village Green Pavilion, 100 Walter Thomas Road, Indian Head.

Wednesday, Oct. 12

The Town of La Plata Design Review Board will meet 9 a.m. at town hall, 305 Queen Anne St., La Plata.

Monday, Oct. 17

The Charles County Board of Education’s School Naming Advisory Committee will hold a public hearing to accept information or comment on names submitted and to accept additional school naming suggestions from the public. The hearing is set for 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building, 5980 Radio Station Road, La Plata.
