Christians might be sheep, but we’re not stupid

Though many Christians may feel like sheep about to be sheared, their brave voices say Donald Trump is best for America, and many people ask why.

Why in the world would devout and devoted evangelical, Bible-loving, God-fearing Christians and religious people vote for an unapologetic, pit-bullmouthed, Churchill-wannabe named Donald Trump? Maybe because Christians are not narrow-minded, nosy, holier-than-thous or dummies, as often labeled by the liberal media. Christians are everyday Americans, poor, middle-class and wealthy, white-collar, blue-collar and dirty-collar of all nationalities. We work to make life better for ourselves and others. We are the salt of the earth, and the hay in the barnyards of the land that we love.

Let’s briefly look at the overall condition we are in as a nation. Crime festers from San Francisco to New York City. We have cultural and racial infighting on a scale perhaps not seen since the Civil War. There is a flood of broken families and missing fathers. The prison and court system is overburdened and under-budgeted. High taxation and restrictive regulations are closing thousands of businesses, and moving others oversea each year. Various countries have expressed disgust with American leadership, and a few have recently played cat and tom with our military.

I submit to you that the common denominator of our problems is that we have left the Christian God out of our decision-making as much as possible. We don’t publicly pray enough, nor credit the creator and sustainer of all things publicly enough. Christianity has become a moot point and a perplexity if it ever has any bearing in the news today.

I recently heard that John Maxwell actually quoted Dr. Lee Roberson when he said, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” Is not this the mandate God has given to His followers in the parable, “Occupy ‘til I come”? Christians need to speak up! “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s,” our Lord Jesus Christ declared.

Christians are not choosing a national pastor. Christians can obviously see which candidate has worked more for a living than talked for a living, among other things. Trump might become America’s pit bull. America’s Churchill. He is certainly, unapologetically, an all-American. If we give him a chance to improve America, we might see it happen.
