United Way seeks listings for updated services directory
United Way of Charles County, in cooperation with other county agencies, is now preparing the 2017 Edition of its Health and Human Services Directory.
This directory is a comprehensive, current in- formation and referral tool for professionals as well as the general public. It will contain listings of agencies that have been approved as Charles County Public Schools Student Service Learning sites. Copies will be distributed free of charge to non-profit agencies, libraries, schools, private practices and other points of public access, and will be made available to individuals upon request.
Nonprofit health and human service or governmental agencies, churches, civic and fraternal organizations not already included in the directory can call the United Way of Charles County office for an application between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 301609-4844 or e-mail dhadden@unitedwaycharles.org. Deadline for submittal of listings is Friday, Nov. 18.

Bank to host annual food and toy drive
Community Bank of the Chesapeake is hosting its sixth annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive now through Dec. 7. Non-perishable food items and new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at any Community Bank branch location.
The Food and Toy Drive will benefit several nonprofit organizations throughout the Bank’s service area. Food collected in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties will be donated to the Southern Maryland Food Bank. Food donated at the Bank’s Virginia branches will support the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. All toys collected will benefit the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots programs in Southern Maryland and Fredericksburg. Anyone wishing to help make a difference in the life of a child or family in our community this holiday season by making a donation is invited to stop by any Community Bank of the Chesapeake branch.

Agricultural commission seeks nominations
The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) is seeking interested individuals to fill voting membership vacancies on the commission. Current open positions include a Southern Maryland farmer from St. Mary’s County and a “Member at Large”. The “at Large” position includes, but is not limited to, individuals with backgrounds in agricultural businesses, economic development, finance or legal from any of the five counties SMADC serves, including Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s.
The commission typically meets the first Monday of each month (Janu- ary-April) and the first Wednesday of each month (May-December), from 9-11 a.m. in Hughesville.
To be considered, submit all pertinent contact information with a brief paragraph describing your background and/ or relationship to the agricultural community.
