Three vehicles collide in White Plains Wednesday
A Newburg man was evacuated via medical helicopter following a three-car accident in White Plains Wednesday afternoon, police say.
The 82-year-old man from Newburg was transport- ed by helicopter with non-life threatening injuries, while six others, including two small children, were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, according to authorities.
At approximately 1:50 p.m., three vehicles — a Ford Expedition, a Chevrolet Silverado and an Infiniti sedan — were involved in an accident on U.S. 301 in White Plains near the intersection with Demarr Road and Regency Place. Charles County Sheriff’s Office units arrived on the scene first, but later turned the investigation over to Maryland State Police troopers.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the Silverado was crossing the southbound lanes of U.S. 301, as it turned onto Regency Place from the northbound lanes, when it was struck by the Expedition, police say. The impact caused the Silverado to strike the Infiniti sedan which had been stationary at the traffic light on Regency Place. The Expedition and sedan both suffered front end damage. The Silverado showed impact on the right side and left front corner.
The 82-year-old man was said to be a passenger of the Silverado, and the two small children were seated in the backseat of the Expedition.
It has not yet been determined which driver failed to obey the traffic light. Maryland State Police Tfc. Robinson is continuing the investigation. Any wit- nesses are asked to contact the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack at 301-392-1200.
