Police investigating homicide after Waldorf man found dead
Police are actively investigat- ing a homicide after a man was found dead in a wooded area on Saturday near Mattawoman Lane in Waldorf.
Authorities have identified the victim as Juan Gonzales-Mejia, 34, of Waldorf. Gonzales-Mejia suffered trauma to his body, and was pronounced dead on scene, according to a Prince George’s County Police Department spokesperson. The agency is not releasing any further infor- mation regarding the nature of his death at this time.
Prince George’s County detectives are leading the investigation, and a reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
Around 3 p.m. on Saturday, a citizen flagged down a Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputy after noticing the man lying in a wooded area in the 16900
block of Mattawoman Lane, authorities reported. Due to the area where the victim was found, the investigation was turned over to Prince George’s County Police Department detectives, who are continuing to work to identify a suspect, or suspects, and a motive.
