The Veterans Democratic Club of Charles

County and Vicinity will meet 10 a.m. at 3385 Metropolit­an Church Road, Indian Head. The club’s speaker will be Charles County Commission­ers’ President Peter Murphy. Murphy plans to speak on county goals for 2017 and will answer questions from the audience. The briefing will be open to the public. Full club membership is open to non-veterans. The Charles County Board of Appeals will meet 7 p.m. in the commission­ers’ meeting room at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

The Charles County Commission­ers will hold the February town hall meeting for District 1 at 6 p.m. at the County Government Building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata. The purpose of commission­er town hall meetings is to take questions from those in attendance and to discuss items of importance to the citizens and the community. Future town hall meeting dates are available at www.CharlesCou­ntyMD.gov. The National Oceanic and Atmospheri­c

Administra­tion (NOAA) has released the draft plan to designate Mallows Bay in Nanjemoy as a National Marine Sanctuary. A public meeting discussing the draft plan will be held 6-9 p.m. at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata. Mallows Bay’s designatio­n as a National Marine Sanctuary will be the first for the state of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The second public meeting will be held 6-9 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Anne Arundel Community College (101 College Parkway, Arnold). NOAA is holding public meetings and accepting public comments on the draft plans through March 31. To submit comments, go to sanctuarie­s.noaa.gov/ mallows-bay/.
