Immigration protections necessary

As an American citizen, I’m not sure I can get more enthusiastic about what’s happening with our country’s political activity. As a first generation, natural-born citizen of the United States, I’m not sure I can get more frustrated about what’s happening with our country’s immigration policy, namely, all of the rancor and outlandish reactions to it.

Carefully consider these questions: Did not President Obama identify and approve a list of seven countries that President Trump just now acted upon to prevent hostile actors from entering the USA? Did not President Obama already put “extreme vetting” in place, and President Trump just said we will temporarily examine and evaluate that vetting for 90 days? Finally, where were all the “un-American immigration policy” protestors when President Obama fully banned all Iraqis in 2011 from entering the USA for six months? What in the world is wrong with that? The hypocrisy is so blindingly bright that it hurts my brain.

Do you know that Muslim-majority countries are not taking in Syrian refugees? Do you actually want to know why not? It’s because they’re playing it safe. They can see the dangers concerning that particular country, and some Americans are choosing to ignore them! Usually I’d say “fine,” to their opinions made in light of their own experience. However, I must utterly reject their protests and purposes in this because I’m living on the same boat as them, and I know that they’re going to sink the ship if immigration is left unchecked.

Yes, there are currently protective procedures in place, but we understand nothing is perfect and it’s completely justified to see if they cannot be made better. It’s also time for Americans to increase our grit, our patience and our common sense. Amen.
