Dofat completes 2016 season with Olympic sparring record
Ends year with numerous medals
Jade Li-Ming Dofat, 15 (Black Belt), is a member of Team Dofat’s Olympic Taekwondo Sparring Team (www.teamdofat.com) in Waldorf.
Dofat finished her 2016 competi- tion season earning a silver medal at the 2016 U.S. Taekwondo Na- tional Championship (Richmond, Va.), gold medal at the 2016 Ambas- sadors Cup (Washington, D.C.), gold and silver medal at the 2016 Maryland State Taekwondo Festival (Essex), two gold medals at 2016 Warrior Within Open Karate Championship (Waldorf), a gold and silver medal at the 2016 New York Open (Long Island, N.Y.), gold and bronze medals at the 2016 Kombat Klassic Open Karate Championship (Waldorf), three gold medals and two grand cham- pions at the 2016 Battle in Hershey (Hershey, Pa.), two gold medals at the 2016 East Coast Taekwondo Championship (Annandale, Va.), two Gold Medals at the 2016 New York Governors Cup (New York, N.Y.), two gold medals at the 2016 Maryland State Captain’s Cup (Jes- sup) and a bronze medal at the 2016 Atlantic Taekwondo Open Championship (Richmond, Va.).
In addition to her 2016 yearend victories, in early 2016, Dofat earned gold and silver Medals in the 2016 World Taekwondo Cham- pionship in Birmingham, England. She also won gold and silver medals in the 2016 New Jersey, Mary- land and Virginia State Amateur Athletic Union Olympic Sparring and Poomsae Championships.
Dofat will be competing in the 2017 U.S. Taekwondo Open Cham- pionship in Las Vegas, 2017 U.S. World Open Championship in Port- land, Ore., and the 2017 Canadian Open Championship in Toronto.
Currently, Dofat competes in U.S. Taekwondo, World Taekwondo Federation, International Taekwon- do Federation, Amateur Athletic Union, Pan American Taekwondo Union, AMKOR, Open and World Taekwondo Alliance competition circuits.
Dofat is currently a freshman at North Point High School, maintaining a solid 4.2 GPA.
Dofat trains six days a week in International Taekwondo Federation Taekwondo and Martial Arts Weapons at Waldorf Martial Arts (www.waldorfmartialarts.com) under Masters Roger Cavanaugh and Steve Hildebrand. She also train in World Taekwondo Federation (Olympic Taekwondo and Sports Poomsae) under her father and coach (Randell L. Dofat, Sr.).
In addition to her local Taekwondo and Olympic Sparring training, Dofat receives specialized training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., and with U.S. Olympic Sparring Team members Master Sohwon Kim, Master Philip Yun and Master Victoria Ann Stambaugh.
Dofat continues to have her sights set on making the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team and competing in the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Japan.
