Nurse entrepreneurs debut training tool

-

A new, innovative device designed to enhance the training of nurses, paramedics and other clinical specialists formally debuted Mar 1 at the Human Patient Simulation Network world conference at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort and Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., according to a news release from the company.

Registered nurse Elizabeth Benson, co-founder and CEO of B& G Educational Innovations (BGEI) and former Indian Head resident, led her core team in a workshop to discuss ways to improve the use of real life volunteers, who are called “standardized participants” in the clinical simulation environment. The professionals in attendance practiced with the company’s ReaLifeSim wearable intravenous insertion (IV) task trainer, designed to help students safely practice starting an IV on a live person.

B& G Educational, through its ReaLifeSim subsidiary, designs affordable, durable, wearable simulation devices for training clinical students in hands-on skills and provider/ patient interaction.

“Nurse instructors attending the workshop really appreciated the sleeve’s tracking and trending features, which allows them to monitor student and class performance over time,” Benson said in the release.

Citing the favorable responses received from attendees who practiced with the sleeve, BGEI co-founder, registered nurse Linda Goodman, director of the clinical simulation center at the College of Southern Maryland and a La Plata resident, reported “how satisfying it has been to hear positive comments about the realistic function and real-time feedback the device provides to students.”
