Public input sought for proposed animal shelter
St. Mary’s County Government is seeking input from citizens in Charles and St. Mary’s counties to determine options regarding a proposed animal shelter.
Citizens and interested stakeholders can go to www. stmarysmd.com/shelter to take part in a special online animal shelter survey. Responses will be used to develop plans and decide next steps in the process.
Participation in the survey is voluntary and no identifiable participant information (i.e. name, address, phone number, etc.) will be collected.
SMADC seeks proposals for creative services
The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland is requesting proposals for a creative services provider to enhance the SMADC brand and programs among farmers and consumers.
SMADC is seeking a creative services partner with a proven track record for creative excellence in graphic design and the ability to execute a corporate suite of creative services projects that includes design and maintenance for existing SMADC websites, promotional items and literature and SMADC’s communications and outreach platforms.
Corporate design continuity, delivering a consistent image, is a priority across all SMADC’s communication platforms.
The provider’s overall objective will be to maintain and enhance awareness of SMADC brand and programs among farmers, consumers and agricultural related organizations. The ideal client-provider relationship should be collaborative; leveraging the respective strategic and tactical strengths and resources of the provider and SMADC. The Creative Services Agreement shall be for one year commencing July 1.

Sports physicals set for June 17, July 8
Charles County Public Schools will offering sports physicals for student-athletes this summer. The physicals are open to the first 100 students who sign up and will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. Physicals will be 8-11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Westlake High School, and 8-11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at Thomas Stone High School.
Students must have the parent portion of the physical form completed and signed, and the $30 cash-only fee at the time of registration. Students will not be seen by a doctor if they don’t have the required materials. Students can get physical forms and permission forms from their athletic director or front office of their home schools.

Pax River to offer summer internship for students
The Patuxent River Naval Air Station is offering students the opportunity to participate in the Supercomputing Internship Program on station. This is an unpaid internship program for U.S. citizens, aged 16 and older. It will run from July 5-August 4, and the hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. High school and early college students can apply by sending a resume and cover letter to Deborah.grinder.ctr@navy. mil. The four and a half week internship program will enable students to assemble mini supercomputers, and to learn or advance their programming skills in C++, working toward the aim of parallel processing on the mini supercomputers. The program also offers team building activities, various tours of base facilities, and guest speakers. Interns will research a topic pertaining to computers and complete a case study paper. Upon completion of the internship, students will present a PowerPoint to brief their experiences during the internship to NAVAIR/NAWCAD leadership. Student interns pack their lunches daily and a refrigerator and microwave ovens are available for use. It is not necessary for interns to already have base access. Student interns will be processed for visitor badges and/or their drivers will be processed for driving them on station. Twenty students will be accepted. Applications should be submitted immediately because once the seats are full, the internship is closed.
