Rickert crafts memoir of his alternativ­e start to a career path

Andy Rickert, of Mechanicsv­ille, recently published “A Marine from Renault,” a memoir of an alternativ­e start to a career path. Rickert shares the true story of his experience­s upon leaving high school and entering the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954, at the age of 17 and his adventures that follow. He aims to demonstrat­e that there is a path to success after high school for those who lack the resources or interest to continue their education. The book is available in paperback and electronic­ally on Amazon, Google, Kindle, Barnes and Noble, and Archway Publishing.

A: This is my second book. I have been writing for about two years. I felt it important to share my thoughts on an alternativ­e start to a career path.

A. I really don’t have any favorite authors. Stephen Ambrose is one that I enjoyed his writing of D-Day because of his defining of the horror our troops had to endure. I was influenced by his writing.

A. I have started a sequel to my first book,”TOMORROW.”

A. That I tell it as it is, so to speak. This is regardless of the popularity.
