Martin named to IWLCA poll

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association recognized Guilford College (N.C.) for academic excellence.

Guilford was one of 308 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA lauded as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 201617 academic year. Honorees recorded a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Guilford’s team honor was made possible in part as four Quakers were tabbed as members of the IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll.

Among them was junior Kelly Martin, a North Point High School graduate from La Plata, who was among 532 student-athletes from 159 different Division III institutions recognized. Honorees are of junior academic standing or higher and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Martin, a dean’s list exercise and sport sciences/health sciences double major, is a three-year starting attacker. She is a three-time Academic All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference pick and has been on Guilford’s Student-Athlete Honor Roll all six semesters.

An education studies minor, Martin will preside over Guilford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2017-18.

Coach Sarah Lamphier’s Quakers posted a 6-10 overall record (3-5 ODAC) in 2017 and could return as many as 13 letter winners next year, including Martin. Guilford College (N.C.)
