GOP hasn’t passed anything meaningful yet

Lately, I have read several letters to the editor that say the current problems in our governance are all the fault of Democrats.

President Obama’s health care bill did nothing but get the health care insured rate up to where more people were insured than had been in years. It was not perfect, but was a significant improvement. The economy was on a slow but steady improvement and did nothing but get the unemployment rate down.

If Obama was not at fault for the current problems, then it was Hillary Clinton’s fault. Being a Democrat, I thought I had better do some research also. Guess what I found out? It seems like in the last election, last November, a Republican president was elected. Republicans also won both houses of Congress. After the election was over, a Republican lawyer was nominated to fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court, vacant since before Obama’s second term was completed — and the Republican Senate refused to honor his nominee. This gave the court a Republican majority.

Since the Republicans now have complete control of governance, they have not been able to pass any meaningful legislation. Their legislative efforts have been concentrated, not on meaningful action, but on trying to remove any evidence that Obama might have done something right.

Our current president’s greatest concern seems to be that he lost the popular vote in the election. His credibility is a joke. He has set a new record for fabrications that may last forever. Integrity and ethics are unknown terms to him. The Republican Health Care Bill, promised to be the greatest piece of legislation ever conceived, one that would insure coverage for all at less cost, was eagerly anticipated by all. When it came out, carefully crafted by a select committee of 15 Republican gentlemen, it was immediately obvious they had never heard of the Hippocratic oath “first, do no harm.” The Obamacare status took a giant leap upward in public opinion.

I would suggest that the avid researchers go back and start over and see if they can find anything the current Republican Party has accomplished “of the people, by the people, for the people” in the last six months. I could use some good news, like in the good old days.
