Hughesville Village zoning public hearing Sept. 19

-

The Charles County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed new zoning for Hughesville Village on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. in the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore St., La Plata.

This zoning change would promote a traditional, walkable pattern of development in the village, as envisioned by the Hughesville Village Revitalization Plan, adopted by the county commissioners in 2007. The proposed Hughesville Village Zoning District consists of four sub-zones: Core, Gateway, Residential and Employment. More information on the proposed zoning and proposed map can be found on the county website at www. charlescountymd.gov/ pgm/planning/hughesville-village-revitalization-plan-and-implementation.

County commissioner meetings are aired live on CCGTV, which broadcasts on Comcast channel 95 and Verizon channel 10. County commissioner meeting agendas are available for public viewing at www. boarddocs.com/md/ chrlsco/Board.nsf/Public.

Citizens wishing to make oral or written comments are encouraged to attend the public hearing. Auxiliary seeks support for Wreaths Across America

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82, La Plata, has joined with Wreaths Across America to honor veterans by placing wreaths on the graves of veterans. The project began in 1992 and has grown every year. The unit will sponsor wreath sales in the “3 for 2 program.” For every two wreaths sponsored, a third will be placed at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.

The unit is seeking $15 donations for each wreath (one free for every two $15 donations). Checks can be made payable to Wreaths Across America, and can be mailed to: American Legion Post 82, P.O. Box 1035, La Plata, MD 20646, Attention: Linda Rollins. Donations may also be made at the legion booth at the Charles County Fair on Sept. 16.

The wreath-laying service at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery will be noon Saturday, Dec. 16. All are invited to attend and participate.

This effort is only possible because of individual and corporate donations, the donations of trucking and shipping companies and thousands of volunteers offering helping hands. Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)3 organization, meaning donations are tax deductible and qualify for matching gifts from many companies. For more information about the organization, go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.
