A 25-year-old man allegedly fired off several rounds from a revolver in a Waldorf home Aug. 28, with three children inside.

Around 3:50 a.m., Deputy Spencer with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of four gunshots heard on the 100 block of Brookside Place. As Spencer arrived to the scene, he saw Armando F. Renteria banging on the front door of the home with a revolver in his right hand, according to court documents. Spencer told Renteria to drop the gun, and several minutes later Renteria dropped the gun between the storm door and the main door of the home.

As Spencer handcuffed the suspect, he smelled an odor of alcohol on his breath and noticed Renteria was slurring his speech.

According to court documents, Renteria was inside the home and fired off several rounds inside the home. There were several bullet holes found in the home as well. The revolver Renteria had been holding had five spent rounds and one live round in the cylinder.

Inside the home at the

time was a 56-year-old woman, along with two 6-year-olds and a 9-yearold, who are relatives to Renteria, Diane Richardson, Charles County Sheriff’s Office public information officer said.

Richardson said that no one indicated that Renteria was shooting at them, and there were no injuries.

Renteria was charged with four counts of reckless endangerment, intoxicated endangerment, firearm being used to commit a crime and handgun on person.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public comments about the Cedar Point Wildlife Management Area (WMA) plan from now until Sept. 15.

The 1,914-acre area is just off Blossom Point Road in Welcome on a peninsula between Nanjemoy Creek and the Potomac River, according to the DNR website.

The Cedar Point WMA plan is a 15-year plan which has taken about a year to put together and will be reviewed and revised over time, said David Heilmeier, DNR Wildlife and Heritage Service, Southern Region manager.

The goal of the draft management plan is to maintain and manage public access for natural resource protection and outdoor recreation, according to the DNR website.

“This is a chance for the public to review every aspect of the plan, including access and youth issues, and give their comments,” Heilmeier said.

He said they have received a couple of responses already, and so far, they have been positive.

The public can submit comments by email at David.Heilmeier@mar yland.gov, or call 410-5350285, or mail them to Maryland Department of Natural Resources, 6904 Hallowing Lane, Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
