County runners shine at Bull Run

The Bull Run Invitation­al, one of the top cross country events during the fall season, returned to Hereford High School in Parkton on Saturday.

Charles County runners performed well at the event as North Point competed in the large school competitio­n and La Plata in the small school competitio­n.

The North Point boys placed seventh overall with 230 points. Sophomore Joshua Doughty was the first Eagles runner to cross the finish line, taking 28th overall in 18 minutes 4.7 seconds with junior teammate Devion Bryant close behind in 32nd (18:26.9).

Howard was the team winner with 58 points with senior Alex Strawley winning the race in 16:38.7.

The North Point girls were 14th overall with 339 points. Senior Mya Rivenburg was the first Eagles runner to cross the finish line in the race, finishing 29th in a time of 22:34.4.

Wootton of Montgomery County was the team winner with 66 points with Annapolis senior Anna Coffin winning the race in 19:21.2. Leonardtow­n’s Nelle Ray was second (19:25.4).

La Plata’s boys were 10th overall in their event, scoring 294 points. Junior Tyler Connolly was the first Warriors runner to finish, taking 22nd overall in 18:12.5.

South Carroll was the team winner with 77 points with Boonsboro senior Henry Schmidt winning the race in 16:27.8.

La Plata’s girls were 14th overall with 398 points. Sophomore Maya Stevens was 65th overall in 25:38.0.

Boonsboro of Washington County was the team winner with 69 points with South Carroll sophomore Danielle Firlie winning the race in 20:42.7.
