Indya Green, a former Kickapoo star who has been a two-year starter for the Missouri State Lady Bears, announced on Tuesday morning that she will enter the transfer portal.

In somewhat of a surprise move, Green will depart after two years of playing for her hometown team. She started her career at

Moberly Area Community College before transferring home, becoming one of head coach Beth Cunningham’s first recruits.

“Coming home and playing in the same arena I used to watch as a young girl was a dream come true for me,” Green posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The memories and friendships I created will always have a special place in my heart.”

Green started in 64 of her 65 appearances in two seasons. She averaged nine points and seven rebounds per game. She transitioned from being a pure post player during her first year to more of a wing in her second.

Green came on strong toward the end of the 2023-24 season, which included a 22-point, 17-rebound performance against Murray State in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament quarterfinals.

The local star played at Kickapoo where she was a three-time all-state recipient. She left the school as its alltime leading scorer, was named the 2021 Class 6 Player of the Year and averaged 19.5 points and 12.1 rebounds per game as a senior.

The Lady Bears were set to return their entire starting lineup and key reserves from this past season but that will no longer be the case. Rare are the days rosters stay in place following the introduction of the transfer portal.

Missouri State is still expected to bring the majority of its roster back for 2024-25 while coming off an appearance in the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.
