Student of the Week goes to Spokane high schooler

All votes have been counted and that includes votes for our next Student of the Week.

This week the title goes to Olivia Christenso­n of Spokane High School, who balances various extracurri­culars while still challengin­g herself in the classroom.

Christenso­n is involved in volleyball, cheer, track and field, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Teachers of

America and student council. When it comes to academics, she takes Honors English and earns dual credit at Ozarks Technical Community College. After high school, Olivia plans to go to college and become a speech therapist. After high school, Olivia plans to go to college and become a speech therapist.

Student of the Week is an initiative by the News-Leader to highlight the academic achievemen­ts of local area high school students. Nomination­s for students who have shown outstandin­g academic and school achievemen­t and community service are gathered from administra­tors at participat­ing districts in the Ozarks.

Besides Christenso­n, here's who else was nominated.

Brooklyn Adney, Strafford High School: A straight-A student, Brooklyn currently has a weighted GPA of 4.28. She is a member of Future Business Leaders of America where she qualified for state competitio­ns this year. Brooklyn also participat­es in the National Honor Society and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. Balancing academics with athletics, she also competes in track and field and is on the basketball team.

Connor Diamond, Springfiel­d Public Schools' Study Alternativ­e School: Described as an exemplary student, Connor earns outstandin­g grades and is always punctual. He leads by example by always remaining extremely respectful and polite to other students, staff and faculty.
