City’s X account compromised

- Marta Mieze

The City of Springfield has lost access to it's social media account on X, formerly known as Twitter. According to a city news release, the city will continue to attempt to regain access to the account but does not plan to create a new account.

The account was largely used for play-by-play coverage of Springfield City Council meetings and other informational material. The council coverage and updates on the Mayor's State of the City Address will now be posted on the city's Facebook page in the comment section under the livestreams of the events.

In the release, chief city spokesperson Cora Scott urged those following the account to unfollow and instead find the city on other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Nextdoor. The city has taken steps to secure its other social media accounts.

The last official post on the X account was posted May 4. No other posts or other activity has occurred on the page as of Wednesday afternoon, though the profile and banner photos have been removed.

For additional ways to connect with the city and find information, visit the city's website.
