Movie: The 39 Steps, 8 PM on TCM: Alfred Hitchcock aficionado­s will detect the seeds of “North by Northwest” in this 1935 British adaptation of a novel by future Canadian Governor General John Buchan. Robert Donat stars as a Canadian visiting London, who allows an attractive spy (Lucie Mannheim) to hide in his flat from two men who are trying to kill her. When she turns up dead the next day, he goes on the run from both the killers and the police, who think he murdered her.

Magnum P.I., 9 PM on Ch. 7 and Ch. 12: After an Army ranger goes missing shortly after returning home from deployment, Magnum

(Jay Hernandez) discovers that the man had received some devastatin­g news upon arriving Stateside. Given that insight, Magnum realizes he must find the ranger before he is consumed by survivor’s guilt in the new episode “The Long Way Home.” Elsewhere, while they’re on a mini-break, Higgins and Ethan (Perdita Weeks, Jay Ali) solve the case of a missing wedding ring, and Katsumoto (Tim Kang) tries spending quality time with his teenage son (guest star Lance Lim).

Movie: In Secret, 10:48 PM on MAX: Not long before Elizabeth Olsen joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, the actress earned good notices in this 2013 big-screen adaptation of Emile Zola’s classic 1867 novel “Therese Raquin,” playing the titular and sexually repressed young Parisienne trapped in a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin (Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” film series). Jessica Lange, Oscar Isaac, Matt Lucas and Shirley Henderson also are featured in the strong ensemble.
