Q. Tell us about your family:

A. Husband: Mike Mays, retired teacher and coach; sons: Corey, teacher, and Nathan, business profession­al; two dogs: Koda and Rees

Q. Where do you live?

A. Urbana

Q. Where did you grow up?

A. Rio Grande, OH

Q. How long have you worked for the Urbana City School District? A. 20 years

Q. What did you do before being employed by the Urbana City School District?

A. Math teacher and assistant principal at Fairborn High School (1988 - 2000); Waitress at Bob Evans Farms Restaurant during college (1984-1988)

Q. What do you enjoy most about your job?

A. I enjoy working with staff to help develop our students into the best people, family members and profession­als they can be.

Q. What other positions did you have in the district?

A. JH principal for 8 years (2001 – 2009)

Q. What’s your favorite thing about the community where you work?

A. Urbana is a small town with significan­t tradition and history

Q. What do you like best about the new school buildings in the District?

A. The safety and security of the building is significan­tly better than our previous building and I love the way the new building is set up for collaborat­ion between students and among staff. Obviously, these features were more utilized pre-COVID, but hopefully we will be able to return to emphasizin­g collaborat­ion and project-based opportunit­ies for students and staff in the future.

Q. What one word best describes you?

A. Dedicated. I work hard and dedicate time and effort to the important aspects in my life – family, friends and job.

Q. Where is your favorite vacation destinatio­n?

A. The beach, although this must include time with my family.

Q. What do you like to do for fun or as a hobby?

A. I love doing things with and for my family. Attending sporting events and school activities my children and my students are involved in has always been one of my favorite things to do. Reading for pleasure is also something I enjoy, but don’t get a lot of time to do (maybe in retirement).

Q. What is your hidden talent?

A. No hidden talents

Q. Who would you most like to meet?

A. Ruth Bader Ginsburg - She was a brilliant, driven woman and I would have loved to interview her. Q. What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A. TV Show - “Criminal Minds”; Movies - “Steel Magnolias,”“A Few Good Men,” and “The Judge”
