State champs, spring sports and prom 2021

-

■ Mechanicsburg High School is home to another state champion team! For the second time in four years, the boys bowling team won the DIII State Championship. The team consists of senior Deacon Morgan and juniors Peyton Leeson, Eli Mayberry, Jack Wolf, Bryen DeWitt, and Zach Miller along with coaches Matt and Kyle Mayberry.

■ Mechanicsburg’s Kindergarten Registration for the 2021-22 school year will take place on April 21 and May 12. Any district family with kids who will be age 5 by Aug. 1 should contact the elementary office at 937-834-2453, ext. 1600 to schedule a registration appointment.

■ Spring sports including baseball, softball and track and field have all started practices for the upcoming season. With all spring sports canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 shutdown, students and coaches are happy to be back on the field and on the track doing what they love. The softball team is eyeing another state tournament run with a large class of seniors at the helm.

■ Students and parents were happy to find out that Mechanicsburg would be hosting Prom 2021 this year. A right of passage for high school juniors and seniors, prom was one of the many events canceled last year that the Class of 2020 missed out on. We are certain that we can pull off a successful event with current safety precautions in place.

■ In recent months, two staff members have received the Golden Tomahawk Award for dedication and service to the district. Jennifer Dietrich was honored in March for her help with the district e-Learning platforms this year. Elizabeth Porter was honored in February for her work as Winter Site Manager responsibilities.

■ Mechanicsburg High School Student Council along with the American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive on April 21, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., at the school. If you are interested in donating, please visit redcrossblood.org to sign up for a donation time.
