Students earn spots in Skillsusa nationals

On May 3 the top 18 students from all over the state competed in the Skillsusa leadership and skill competitio­ns.

Skillsusa, a nonprofit national education associatio­n, is a partnershi­p of students, teachers and industries that work together to prepare students for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupation­s.

Northeaste­rn students Carolyn Harrington (senior) and Trinity Ridgeway (junior), who are enrolled in the Health Occupation­s program, competed as a team of four with Bethani Gayheart (Tecumseh) and Logan

Smith (Shawnee) to earn first place (Gold) in the Skillsusa Competitor­s Contest.

Northeaste­rn’s Tehya Maxwell ( junior) was elected as one of the seven state officers for Skillsusa. Additional­ly, Northeaste­rn’s Tom Steven (senior), who is enrolled in the Electrical Trades program, placed sixth in the Industrial Motor Controls contest.

As state winners, Bethani Gayheart, Carolyn Harrington, Logan Smith, Trinity Ridgeway, and Teyha Maxwell will represent the Springfiel­d-clark CTC and Ohio at the Skillsusa National Championsh­ips on June 20-25, in Atlanta!

Congratula­tions to all of these students for their hard work and good luck at Nationals!!

School buildings during our “One Last Look” open house.

The NEHS building at 1480 Bowman Road and the SVES building at 140 West Main Street will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. May 20 for our community to come in, take photos and share stories.

Northeaste­rn High School was constructe­d in 1951 and opened its doors in 1952.

The Class of 1953 was the first graduating class to enter the new NEHS building. South Vienna Middle & Elementary School was built in 1961.
