Saturday, May 28

■ 9 a.m. Walkers from First Baptist Church will gather at the corner of Clifton and Grand avenues for a neighborhood clean-up walk. Anyone who wants exercise and to help make the city clean are welcome to join the effort. Trash bags and gloves are furnished.

Sunday, May 29

■ 9 a.m. St. John’s Lutheran Church, 27 N. Wittenberg Ave., Springfield, will have Sanctuary Service featuring a large sanctuary that has plenty of room for social distancing. The Rainbow Table lunch is held on Fridays from noon to 1 p.m. (everyone welcome). The Food Pantry is open every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 9 to 10:45 a.m. and closed the first Wednesday of each month. The Food Pantry will be CLOSED the entire month of June and will reopen Wednesday, July 6. The Outreach Thrift Store is open Tuesday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Donations accepted during open hours. The store will be closed Wednesdays and Fridays until further notice due to staffing issues.

■ 9:30 a.m. First Lutheran Church, Wittenberg and High celebrates Seventh Sunday of Easter with in-person and online worship, Interim Pastor Gil Santiago, Organist and Accompanist, Terry Donat, and Director of Music, Michael Koon. “In Christ there is no east or west, in him no south or north, but one community of love throughout the whole wide earth.” Text by John Oxenham.

■ 10 a.m. First Baptist Church of Springfield is worshiping in church at 638 South Fountain Ave. with social distancing and CDC guidelines being observed. The sixth Sunday after Easter is celebrated with a message by guest preacher Dr. Wes Babian. Debbie Copeland will serve as lay leader. Special music will be provided by Basil Fett. Joyce Webb will lead the singing of the hymns. The service is also available on-line live at 10 a.m. through the church website www.firstbaptistspringfield. org, or any time thereafter. 11 a.m. Children’s Sunday school will be held. Also, at 11 a.m. the Adult Forum will meet in the church lounge. First Baptist is a diverse congregation that reflects the population of Springfield. ■ 6 p.m. VBS 2022 “On the Case” at Springfield Church of Christ, 1620 Buck Creek Lane, Springfield, will be held June 6-10, 6-8:30 p.m. Growing in faith doesn’t have to be an unsolved mystery. Take a 5-day journey as a kid detective as you dig into a few of Jesus’ parables to solve the mysteries of how to grow your faith, how to care for, serve and love others. Each child will be invited to learn through music, crafts, games and snacks. An adult class will be offered from 7:20 8:15 p.m. each evening.
