TV HIGHLIGHTS
Movie: Men in Black, 7:02 PM on TBS:
Blink and you’ll miss one of the best jokes in this tongue-in-cheek 1997 sci-fi tale: a wall of mug shots that reveals some of Earth’s more colorful celebrities to actually be aliens. They’re everywhere, and they’re aiming to destroy the Earth. That’s where agents J and K (Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones) come in. Newly paired by the supersecret federal agency that employs them, they’re sent off to stop the extraterrestrial aggressors. Two sequels, “Men in Black II” and “Men in Black 3,” immediately follow.
Movie: The Harvey Girls, 8 PM on TCM:
An intended mail-order bride, played by Judy Garland, meets several women planning to open a train-stop restaurant in this 1946 musical directed by genre veteran George Sidney. The would-be wife decides to join the other ladies’ business venture, which faces competition from a nearby saloon. John Hodiak, Ray Bolger and Angela Lansbury co-star; the score includes the Oscar-winning “On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe.”
Movie: The Disaster Artist, 9 PM on SHOW:
James Franco directed, co-produced and stars in this 2017 biographical dramedy, which chronicles the (mostly) true story of an unlikely friendship that develops between wouldbe actor and filmmaker Tommy Wiseau (Franco) and Greg Sestero (Dave Franco, brother of James) while the two men are working Wiseau’s 2003 film “The Room.” The latter movie has become a cult classic among aficionados of terrible movies. Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, Ari Graynor and Zac Efron also are featured in the film, which earned several plaudits at the end of its release year.
